Skin & Bones Conference in Pensacola Beach: 25 CME Credits in a Beachfront Destination

What if your next CME conference could feel more like a vacation? Here's what it was like to earn 25 CME credits in Pensacola Beach.

What if your next CME conference could feel more like a vacation?

That was my experience at the Skin & Bones Conference in Pensacola Beach. Over the course of five days, I earned 25 CME credits, attended practical lectures covering dermatology, orthopedics, endocrinology and cardiology, and still had plenty of time to enjoy the white-sand beaches, great restaurants and beautiful Gulf Coast sunsets.

For healthcare professionals looking for high-quality continuing medical education without giving up the opportunity to enjoy a great destination, this conference offers a compelling combination.

Why Attend Skin & Bones?

The educational content was one of the biggest strengths of the conference. Rather than focusing exclusively on highly specialized material, many of the presentations centered on conditions and clinical situations that healthcare providers encounter regularly.

The week included:

  • Dermatology: Psoriatic arthritis, dermatology medications, rashes and practical approaches to skin conditions, presented by Laura Bush, PA-C.
  • Orthopedics: Physical examination techniques and fracture fundamentals, presented by Sarah Bolander, DMSc, PA-C, DFAAPA.
  • Endocrinology: Non-statin lipid management, osteoporosis, MASLD, type 1 diabetes and hyperthyroidism, presented by Ashlyn Smith, MMS, PA-C, DFAAPA.
  • Cardiology: Chest pain evaluation, athletic cardiomyopathy, EKG and echocardiography, heart failure and cardiogenic shock, presented by Sarah Schroeder, PhD, ACNP-BC, MSN, RN, AACC.

Additional breakfast and lunch-and-learn sessions covered topics including acute pain management, HIV prevention with long-acting injectables and fibromyalgia.

The result was a diverse week of CME that provided useful information across multiple areas of clinical practice.

25 CME Credits Without Sacrificing Your Vacation

One of my favorite things about this conference was the ability to combine professional education with an actual vacation.

The conference is held in Pensacola Beach, Florida, and the location is beautiful. The white sand and exceptionally clear Gulf water made it easy to understand why Pensacola Beach is such a popular destination.

Between sessions, there was time to enjoy the beach and pool, explore local restaurants and spend time with family.

One evening, my wife and I picked up pizza and ate it on the beach while watching the sunset. Another evening, we had dinner at the hotel's restaurant. There was also a poolside social hour where attendees could meet a local medevac flight crew and see their helicopter up close.

It's a pretty unique experience to spend the morning earning CME and the afternoon relaxing on the beach.

The Conference Makes CME Easy

The logistics were straightforward from start to finish.

Registration was simple, and the welcome packet included the information and handouts needed for the conference. Attendees also received a bag and water bottle.

After the conference, obtaining my CME certificate was equally easy. I received an email with instructions, created my CME University account, completed the post-test and evaluation, and was then able to download my certificate.

The activity offered 25.00 AAPA Category 1 CME credits and 25.00 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits. The activity was jointly accredited through the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine by the ACCME, ACPE and ANCC.

You Can Review the Material After the Conference

Another feature that I found particularly valuable was continued access to the educational content.

The presentation slides are available to download, and recordings of the live sessions remain available for 30 days after the conference.

That means you don't have to worry about remembering everything from a single lecture. If you want to revisit a presentation or review a topic in more detail after returning home, you have the opportunity to do so.

ME + Pensacola Beach = A Win-Win

There were also some fun extras throughout the week, including games and opportunities to win prizes between sessions. I ended up taking home a gift bag and an Amazon gift card.

The discounted hotel room block for conference attendees was another helpful feature, particularly for healthcare professionals trying to stay within a CME or professional development budget.

But ultimately, the biggest selling point is the combination of education and location.

You get a full week of clinically relevant CME, access to multiple specialties, 25 CME credits, downloadable presentations and post-conference recordings, all while staying steps away from one of the most beautiful beaches on the Gulf Coast.

My Takeaway

If you're searching for a CME conference in Florida, a PA CME conference, NP CME conference, or simply a continuing medical education experience that combines education with a great destination, Skin & Bones in Pensacola Beach deserves a look.

I left the conference feeling like I had accomplished something professionally while also getting a much-needed break from the usual routine.

25 CME credits. Practical clinical education. Beautiful beaches. Great food. And plenty of opportunities to enjoy Pensacola Beach.

That's a pretty good combination.
